Market Momentum This Week

Indian equities opened lower on Friday, tracking Wall Street, as a fresh batch of US economic data reinforced bets that the Federal Reserve will keep interest rates higher for longer.
Ten of the thirteen major sectoral indexes fell. Financial and information technology (IT) stocks fell 0.5% and 1.16%, respectively. The drop in domestic equities follows a drop in Wall Street as data showed a higher-than-expected rise in producer prices in January and a drop in jobless claims, indicating the Fed may maintain its high-rate policy.
This could have an impact on growth in the world's largest economy, from which Indian IT firms derive a significant portion of their revenue.

Sectors to Watch Out

What is a candlestick chart pattern?Candlestick charts are a type of technical chart that condenses data from multiple time frames into a single price bar. Candlesticks form patterns that, when completed, can predict price direction. Color coding properly adds depth to this colorful technical tool, which dates back to 18th century Japanese rice traders.

Candlesticks are traditionally used on a daily basis, with the idea being that each candle captures a full day's worth of news, data, and price action. As a result, candles may be more useful to long-term or swing traders.

Most importantly, each candle has a unique story to tell. When looking at a candle, it's best to think of it as a competition between buyers and sellers. A light candle (typically green or white) indicates that the buyers have won the day, whereas a dark candle indicates that the sellers have won the day. But it's what happens between the open and close, as well as the battle between buyers and sellers, that makes candlesticks so appealing as a charting tool.

What are blue chip stocks?Blue chip companies are well-established and financially sound corporations that are leaders in their respective industries. These companies have a long history of stable earnings growth and a strong track record of paying dividends to their shareholders.

The term 'blue chip' comes from the game of poker, where blue chips traditionally represent the highest value chips. Similarly, blue chip companies are considered to be of high value in the stock market, and they are often the most sought-after investments by investors looking for stable, long-term returns.

Blue chip companies typically have a large market capitalization, meaning that the total value of their outstanding shares is high, and they are usually household names that are well-known and respected by the general public. Examples of blue chip companies include Apple, Microsoft, Coca-Cola, Johnson & Johnson, and Procter & Gamble.
